octubre 2013
¡hola, gente!
the fall season is now in full swing, and so far it’s off to a good start. anna nicole was certainly entertaining (and quite widely seen, it seems), and arguendo was truly thought-provoking, the kind of work that keeps you thinking long after it’s over. (note that arguendo has been extended through the end of the month, in case you still want to see it.)
as an experiment, i’ve opened a twitter account (pablo_difuso), which you can follow if want information on the fly. yes, i realize i’m not following anyone (yet), but for now i’d rather just use it to disseminate information rather than receive it. anyway....
below is a (semi-)short list of potential highlights for this month:
performance: ps122 and HERE offer two perspectives on finance that (for reasons obvious to most of you) i’m looking forward to seeing: “a (micro)history of world economics, danced” and “trade practices.”
dance: william forsythe’s sider comes to BAM october 9 – 12. even when he’s not at his best, he’s still worth seeing, and this piece looks promising. (check out the guardian’s profile of him.) the following weekend, BAM has a double-header from “enormously influential” anne teresa de keersmaeker, en attendant and cesena. (here, again, her guardian profile is indispensable.) if you’re not sure you want an entire evening of dance, you can drop in and out of “social choreographer” ernesto pujol’s 24-hour piece (the description of which sounds quite moving—pardon the pun) running from 10:30am on october 3 to 10:30am on october 4.
music: olafur arnalds plays le poisson rouge on october 8 (i have one of his albums and quite like it). on october 14, you can watch nico muhly present some of the music from two boys live from the guggenheim (tickets for the event sold out way in advance), or you can see the whole thing at the met between october 21 and november 14.
theater: the good person of szechwan opens at the public on october 18 and runs through november 24; the buzz from its run at la mama this past spring was very, very good. marie antoinette premieres october 9 at soho rep, and some knowledgeable friends strongly encouraged me to check it out (full disclosure: i liked sofia coppola’s movie with the same title, so i may be partial...).
art: the three shows i want to try and see are taner ceylan at paul kasmin (he’s terrific), t. j. wilcox at the whitney (partly because he’s displaying some felix gonzalez-torres work, which i love), and janet cardiff’s “40-part motet” at the cloisters (i’ve seen this piece in two different settings already, and it’s simply amazing).
things to look out for in the not-too-distant future include daniel kitson’s world premiere of analog.ue at st. ann’s warehouse (yes, i’m repeating myself), the wooster group’s troilus & cressida (on sale _now_ for february), rashaun mitchell and silas reiner’s way in at danspace project, richard serra’s huge new show at gagosian, chris burden at the new museum, and, cross your fingers. the return of here lies love.
abrazos,
pablo
